Select Books and Oro Editions are pleased to invite you to a Meet-the-Authors session with Jyoti Angresh and Melissa Diagana, authors of Fort Canning Hill: Exploring Singapore's Heritage and Nature, on Saturday, 20 April 2013, at 3:00pm.
About the Book
Fort Canning Hill: Exploring Singapore's Heritage and Nature is the first coffee table book dedicated to the rich heritage and biodiversity of Singapore’s beloved park on a hill. It takes the reader through a holistic journey through the park – from uncovering the layers of its military, architectural, trading and natural heritage to getting an intriguing look at its diverse botanical life and previous inhabitants. At the same time, the book captures the significance of Fort Canning Hill as a key cultural destination and popular recreational space today. In many ways, the story of Fort Canning Hill parallels the transformation of Singapore from a sleepy fishing village to a vibrant cosmopolitan city.
About the Authors
Jyoti Angresh and Melissa Diagana are two expatriates who have been living in Singapore for over six years. Having lived near Fort Canning Hill, they were constantly amazed by this multifaceted and centrally-located park. They were inspired to write this book to share their enthusiasm for this hidden jewel, and to highlight the impressive history and ecology contained within the hill.
Jyoti is a fashion business professional with a degree in humanities. She has a natural love for heritage and culture that has found expression in her writings over the years.
Melissa is a molecular biologist by training who enjoys studying the broader picture of natural history as much as its reductionist details. She regularly writes about nature and environmental topics.
