To mark World Animal Day, Select Books is pleased to invite you to talks by humane education and animal welfare experts Nel van Amerongen (ACTAsia for Animals) and Louis Ng (ACRES) on Saturday, 5 October 2013, at 3.00pm.
The talks are in conjunction with the photo exhibition "Our Silent Community: A Photographic Essay about the Lives of the SPCA's Shelter Workers and Animals" by Charlotte Tng and Jean Lim.
About the Speakers
Nel van Amerongen has been working for animal welfare for decades. Over the past seven years, Nel has been working together with ACTAsia for Animals to establish a humane education curriculum in China. The pioneering project that is supported by the Lee Foundation, is based on the recognition that humans, animals and the environment are interrelated and should be treated with respect and consideration. Nel will share insights from kindergartens and primary schools in China, where humane education has been introduced since 2012, and discuss how through spreading positive information we can create a more harmonious society. Nel currently lives in Singapore and combines her passion for animal advocacy with her profession as a neuropsychologist.
Louis Ng is the Founder and Chief Executive of ACRES, an NGO advocating for an end to animal cruelty in Asia. ACRES has six focus areas: Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation, Tackling Wildlife Crime, Addressing Zoo Animal Welfare, Humane Education, Community Outreach and Promoting Cruelty-Free Living.
